Our industries, especially the manufacturing domain, have benefitted from advances in robotics since the mid-90s. Robotics for applications in the services domain such as those related to hospitality, healthcare, maintenance, cleaning, and emergency services are however far less pervasive. Why is that so? Is Moravec’s Paradox still relevant? This presentation will look at the challenges in developing robotics solutions for such services applications. It will also highlight examples of capabilities catalysed by the Singapore National Robotics Programme(NRP) to spur the greater adoption of robotics in Singapore to overcome its labour and demographic challenges.
